The Following Directions Series
Two programs developed by Dr. Eleanor Semel

These programs help individuals develop their ability to follow simple directions. All-new versions use multimedia techniques. Users will be captivated by the use of video imaging, clay modeling, traditional animation and 3-D characters. Benefits include increased auditory comprehension, reinforces basic concepts, improves responses to instructions, builds independence and facilitates inclusion. Keyboard, touch screen, or single switch can be used.

Following Directions: One and Two-Level Commands - This program offers 24 different activities that teach one-level , sequential, and two-level commands using important (school) concepts: spatial relations and directional terms. There are twenty-four activities in all. First choose the type of commands you want to teach. Then you teach the type of command using one of the following concepts:

  • Spatial Relations: above/below; in front of/ in back of/ next to; in front of/behind/beside; in front of/behind/between.
  • Directional Terms: upper/lower/left/right; through/under; ordinal (1st, 2nd, 3rd); ordinal (behind/beside/in front of).

Following Directions: Left and Right - This program includes ten activities that will improve the individual's ability to follow directions and develop left/right discrimination skills. Two animated characters, TJ and Structor, make this program educational as well as entertaining. Ten activities train left and right:

  • Left And Right in Relation to the Individual: identify left and right hands; find objects to your left and right; put TJ to your left and right.
  • Left and Right - One Object in Relations to Another: find objects to the left/right in a line; put objects in left to right hands; put TJ in the object on the left or right; find objects to Structor's left or right.
  • Left and Right in Relation to the Speaker (Mirrored): find objects toStructor's left/right (mirrored); put objects in mirrored left and right hands; put objects in non-mirrored hands.

Suggested for children . ... adults with developmental disabilities, aphasia, and traumatic brain injury.
