Writing With Symbols 2000

A powerful talking picture and word processing program with over 8,000 illustrations. Writing with Symbols 2000 allows you to type and have pictures quickly pop in to illustrate each word meaning.
The program has three primary functions:

  1. to create printed activities used for individuals or small group instruction. These include picture stories, . . . schedules or illustrated directions.
  2. to helps individuals who are not text ready write picture based compositions.
  3. functions as a talking word processor for individuals who can use text.


Some specific feature include spell checking; talking word processor, adjustable picture and text size, 3,800 color and black & white Picture Communication Symbols; 4,000 black & white rebus symbols and the ability to import graphics and photos.
Writing With Symbols is creative tool for those assisting adults with developmental disabilities. Just by typing, some of the things you can create include:

  • picture stories for emerging readers.
  • picture strips to use with reading books and literacy classes.
  • picture directions for guidance.
  • picture recipes for independence.
  • picture schedules to promote organization and independence

This program is being used to assist individuals to expand their communication skills. Activities include writing individual stories, personal journals, shopping lists, letters, etc. Program gives user the choice of a number of pictures for the same word so that the one most representative to the individual may be used.
