Sensory Centres

Sensory Centres may be situated within larger areas (day rooms, common areas, living rooms, etc) and enable individuals to participate in sensory activities in a less structure environment than a sensory room.
These areas are designed around the interests, learning objectives, and likes of the individuals using the centres, and any number or variety of sensory devices may be included. The equipment may be changed or expanded upon as desired or necessary. How often and when the individual(s) access the centres would be determined by the/their program plan or objectives.
Switch adapted equipment increases the individual's ability to use the centres independently and to make choices. Sensory Centres may be placed on varying height tables, in corners, separated by drapes or dividers,. . . whatever works. Each Sensory Centre should be developed to meet the needs, interests, safety considerations, etc. of the individual(s) who will using the centre.

Sensory Centres were in use at the St. Amant Centre, Winnipeg Manitoba. Information on suggested devices and equipment was also obtained from Snoezelen® on a Shoestring Budget by Annette Davis-Kramp, Medina County Board of MRDD, Medina, Ohio.
