hand-in-hand
with
practitioners
over
the
years
to create
the

Snoezelen®
resources
available.
The
interactive
sensory
environment
created
by Snoezelen®
allows
users
to experience
all
aspects
of leisure,
from
active
exploration
("sniffing")
to deep,
peaceful
rest
("dozing").
Since
its
development
in the
Netherlands
over
twenty
years
ago,
Snoezelen®
has
been
used
in an
ever
expanding
range
of educational
and
clinical
settings.
Its
growth
and
acceptance
is largely
due
to the
pioneering
work
conducted
in the
field
by health,
education,
and
social-science
professionals
and
carers.
Snoezelen®
has
been
found
to be
effective
with
individuals
and/or
groups,
young
and
old
with:
- special
needs,
- developmental
disabilities,
- mental
health
problems,
- post-traumatic
stress
disorders,
- autism,
- acute
and
chronic
pain,
- a
stroke
or
traumatic
brain
injury,
- aging
adults.
