BeCoolŽ

BeCool was developed to nourish the key elements of emotional intelligence: impulse control, empathy and self awareness. Within the context of teaching how to be assertive, BeCool teaches specific reflective thinking techniques to promote self-control and interrupt the tendency to impulsively act out. The six different programs, each broken into 4 separate modules, are designed for 5 different grade (school age) levels:

Lower Elementary - BeCool: Coping with Difficult PeopleŽ - establishes good habits early. ChesterŽ the Cat and his real-life friends teach BeCool techniques that help kids cope with teasing, bullying, criticism and anger. The text and graphics make it a breeze for 5-through 8-year-olds to relate.

Upper Elementary - BeCool: Coping with Difficult PeopleŽ - how to deal with teasing, bullying, anger and criticism is sensibly taught to 8-through 12-year-olds. Simple and straightforward, BeCool teaches the viewer to avoid the negatives of "hot" and "cold" behaviour.

Upper Elementary-Middle School Bridge: BeCool: Losing It!* - designed to expand upon the content and strategies presented in the first BeCool Upper Elementary and Middle School series, this new program will teach the latest cognitive and self-talk techniques to control impulsive, self-destructive and violent behavior.

Middle School
Part 1: BeCool: Coping with Difficult PeopleŽ - the toughest years. Sensitivity is high and self-esteem is always on the line. BeCool will teach proven techniques to immediately cope and defuse provocation and aggression.
Part 2: BeCool: Give and Take - NegotiateŽ - illustrating techniques used by top international negotiators, this BeCool program teaches how to negotiate long-term resolution of disputes with peers and authority figures.

High School - BeCool: Coping with Difficult PeopleŽ: - bad responses to teasing and bullying can have devastating effects on young adults. BeCool teaches how to control their emotions in tough situations - without losing dignity and respect.

Viewers are shown the three ways we can respond to conflict and adversity;

  • Don't be HOT and Blow Up.
  • Don't be Cold and Give Up.
  • BeCoolŽ and in Control.

Icons are used to symbolize the Hot, Cold and BeCool concepts. The icons will be of special help to the learner who is cognitively challenged. This learner may be unable to verbalize behaviours associated with acting cool, but quite capable of recalling the cloud icon of the cool response and calm tone associated with it and act accordingly.
