Being With PeopleŽ

Applying good social skills can make the difference between having a gratifying alliance or a painful interpersonal exchange. For individuals with special needs, social skills competence can determine the difference between a life of isolation and one of enrichment. With the "Being with People" series, you'll teach the essential social skills needed to establish positive relations with friends, dates, housemates, authority figures, strangers, and much more. The complete series is over 2 hours of instructional material, comprised of 4 separate programs.

Program topics are:

  • Being with Friends
  • Being with a Date
  • Being with Housemates
  • Being with Authority Figures, Acquaintances & Strangers.

There are two videos (A & B) for each program topic. Part "A" tapes are designed and paced to be entertaining. Their purpose is to motivate interest as well as to serve as an "advance organizer" of the information to be later analyzed in detail in the "B" tapes. The "B" tapes are intended for in-depth analysis. They accompany the detailed lesson plans in the Teacher's guide and are designed to stop and start.
The "B" Tapes are the primary instructional vehicles for teaching individuals the new behaviours and skills introduced in this series.
The instructor has the option of using only the "B" tapes when working with individuals with lower functioning abilities.

Components of the lessons include:

  • Learning Objectives,
  • Synopsis,
