Communities for Everyone

A publication of the Canadian Association for Community Living this book is intended to assist community members to do what needs to be done to transform communities into inclusive, enabling environments in which everyone's participation is welcome and everyone's contribution is valued. The underlying premise, and the strategies used to get there, respect a broad understanding of inclusion that extends to all citizens. Inclusive communities require vision, leadership, commitment to goals and action, and meaningful engagement of community members.
Communities for Everyone asks the questions:

  • What does an inclusive community look like?
  • What does a community need in order to become inclusive and enabling?
  • What can individuals do to begin building an inclusive community?
  • What lessons have we learned about building communities that are inclusive?

Through the use of success stories and practical ideas the readers is provided with answers to these questions.
