Therapeutic Uses of Music With Older Adults
by Alicia Ann Clair PhD,

This book is intended for anyone who wants to use music to benefit older people, especially caregivers of older people, older people who would like to use music therapeutically, and professionals who work with older adults in various capacities to either maintain or improve their quality of life. This book is also useful for music therapists who are beginning a practice in gerontology, either early in their careers or as a change in professional focus after some years of experience. The information presented here includes the theoretical basis for using music for and with older people.
It does not include detailed therapeutic applications or practice protocols, but some practical approaches to using music to more effectively influence quality of life are included.
This book is not intended as a substitute for professional music therapy interventions nor is it intended as a means for professionals in other disciplines to conduct music therapy sessions. However, it is possible to use the information in this book to effect positive changes that may heighten awareness of music's power to influence physical, social and emotional responses.
