Self Development First Contact was written especially for those who work directly with individuals who have significant disabilities. The book challenges the reader to reflect on how they "see" and "interact with" a person with a significant disability. First Contact is an honest discussion of both humanity and uniqueness. Frontline Initiative is a newsletter, published four times per year by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals. This newsletter is written by Direct Support Professionals (Front-line) for Direct Support Professionals. Each newsletter is packed with information aimed at assisting D.S.P. to support individuals in achieving their life goals. Getting People Involved in Life and Activities: Effective Motivating Techniques presents ideas on how to motivate those we work with to become involved in meaningful leisure activities. The final chapter "You Are Their Greatest Motivation" discusses the role of the leader (direct support worker). Keeping the/your Spirit Alive at Work are excerpts taken from Catherine Fenwick's material, and focus on how to enhance or redevelop a positive work/life attitude. POWER TOOLS was written for and is a must read for all direct support providers. Power Tools challenges the reader to constantly evaluate their use of power when serving people who have disabilities. TALL TALES: Self Concept and People with Developmental Disabilities is a three hour lecture describing a means of increasing meaning and purpose in the life of people with developmental disabilities. Self esteem is never far behind. Recorded live, Dave Hingsburger is at his best mixing old stories and new.
